is unique. It is the first time a popular selection of
Django Reinhardt, Gypsy Jazz, QHCF tunes have been laid out
in such a simple, easy-to-learn way. We have unraveled the
mystery in learning this exciting style of acoustic
guitar.
Included with the songbook Play Along CD that is over 70 minutes long featuring a rhythm section comprising of Robin Nolan on rhythm guitar and solo melodies and Paul Meader on acoustic bass. The idea is to get you jamming on the songs instantly, very much like the concept behind the "Real Book" in the "Jazz Standards" world. Robin and I have been playing the "Gypsy Jazz" repertoire literally every day for the last 10 years and have jammed with many gypsy jazz musicians around the world. It is from this experience that we have compiled a book featuring 11 of the great swing tunes most frequently played on the scene today, laying out the most commonly used "Django" type chord voicing's for the rhythm section, and for the soloist a very simple version of the songs melody in user friendly Tablature. We have also included several American jazz Standards which were very much a part of the QHCF song book.
"On the road with Jon Larsen and the Hot Club de Norvege"...............
Thanks for mailing us the new book ! I brought it along with me last week in the bandwagon and studied it carefully.(plenty of time when we are on the road) Also I forced our otherwise contemplating guitar harmonica player to read through it. Even our rhythm guitar player had no chance to escape (he is usually driving), he read it at the truck stop. The bass player is sitting beside me in the car and is always pinching my newspaper - as expected he grabbed the book instantly. So - Hot Club de Norvege have really looked into the case and we agree upon this : your short, philosophical, non academic (all three are excellent qualities) book is the first and only one in the genre we will recommend. We get lots of requests for a book like this and so far we've always answered that there is no such thing. From now on we will recommend this book !

You have done a fantastic job with the book and the CD. People have been waiting for this for a long time !!!
Steve Royall, GB.......Django swing page
Great job on the book. To be honest I thought it was going to be another run of the mill job but I have been more than pleasantly surprised and have had to get the guitar out on several occasions to run over what I thought I knew. The CD is ideal for those times when you can't find a sober rhythm player. Well done to both of you. I'm looking forward to the next installment !
Paul Mehling - Hot Club de San Francisco.
The CD and Book are INCREDIBLE !! I can't recommend this enough to my students.

I got the book two days ago and I must say ......"hats off to you !!", what a great job ! Your ideas on music and playing were and will continue to be very inspirational. I really dig the chord substitutions on "Minor Swing." You can count me in for book # 2 !!

Thank you for the songbook and CD. IT'S GREAT!!! I've been looking for something like this ever since I got into Gypsy Jazz.

I just have to compliment you on the exemplary job you have done on the book / CD of Gypsy Jazz tunes. I have made more progress in my playing in the last two weeks than I had in the last two years !

Last Saturday I bought your book on Gypsy Jazz, for me it is pure inspiration. Since I can not read dots and my theoretical knowledge of chords is very limited, I find it difficult to figure out chord voicings for swing accompaniment.
The ones I find in the chord books are too complicated or too far apart, what's worse is that they don't sound right. So you can imagine how happy it made me to find the information I need readily available in your book in exactly the form that I can understand. This book takes me big steps further on my musical journey. Thank you very much !

Thanks for the books/CD's. They are invaluable. They are very clear and comprehensible and they make practice fun. The new chords have broadened my musical horizons immensely.

The book is a masterpiece.

Thanks for sending the Cd's and the tune book. Nice stuff. I'm actually getting a lot of use out of the play along book. The chord subs you guys use in Minor Swing are pretty fun, especially since I have more of a bebop background. Which is probably why I like your recordings as well...it's nice to hear Django influenced music with some other bop, Latin and various other modern jazz ideas in there. Bravo !
